This is what happens when you have a shrinking population. This is happening in some areas of the US today and will happen in much of the US eventually as our fertility rate continues below replacement level. The current expectation is that the U.S. will eventually open up the immigration spigot even further[1].

The US is frequently portrayed in the media as hostile to immigration but the data says that is totally false. While the US does not have the highest levels of immigration in the world, the country ranks very high relative to most other countries.
