My father-in-law grew up on a farm in Alberta, Canada. Their farm house had running water, but not hot water (that was heated on the stove). They used an actual outhouse just outside for the toilet. For bathing they had a tub inside but had to add hot water heated on the stove.
Today, we seldom realize that our grandparents or parents (depending on your age) lived in a very different world from the luxuries we experience today.
