The city has put a lot of money into bicycling infrastructure – yet during the past ten years, the number of riders has gone down by -40%.

But while the bureau said biking across the city has been consistent in recent years, the report also noted current numbers represent a 40% drop from the peak in 2016. Officials said cycling started to decrease in 2019, and the COVID-19 pandemic starting in 2020 led to an even “steeper drop.”

In 2025, 1 in 4 were not riding “bicycles” either but were riding E-Bikes. In my own town, many e-bikes have been reclassified as electric motor bikes.
