Oregon wants to sequester more carbon in more forest lands by selling more carbon offsets.
Last week, 500,000 “carbon credits”, sold to California businesses, went up in flames, releasing all of their carbon to the atmosphere. I live in Central Oregon and we suffer annually as the local forests burn to the ground – in the past, Oregon did logging and had fewer fires. Now its an annual event with Air Quality Indices of 500 to 1000 during fire season.
In past years, Oregon has seen hundreds of thousands of acres of “carbon credit” forests burn to the ground. As Bloomberg and WSJ reported, “carbon offset” credits are scams that do nothing for the climate.
