People using online platforms – which run in data centers – are working to prohibit consruction of new data centers:

  • Much of it is from the culture of perpetual outrage community – they are generally against many things.
  • Much of it has to do with misinformation about data centers. The claims of water usage are given without context – plus it depends on the type, size and location of the data center.
  • Some of the opposition comes from fake grass roots protesters who are getting funding from China-based competitors. How better to shut down future completion!

That said, there are some concerns about data centers:

  1. HVAC noise to the surrounding community
  2. After construction, they employ relatively few people relative to their physical size
  3. Electricity generation issues – up near Spokane, an unnamed company has proposed a new data center that would require more electricity than is currently produced by the two area utility companies, combined.
