Reminder – you cannot compare home prices across the decades without taking in to consideration the differences in home sizes. The typical home today is twice the size of one in the 1960s.
In the 1960s, the typically home was 1,300 to 1,500 sq ft, had 2-3 bedrooms, 1 bath and a 1 car garage if it had a garage.
Today, the average new home is 2400 sq ft, 3+ bedrooms, 2-3 baths, 2 car garage – and this is down from the peak of 2700 sq ft in 2014.
Today’s home construction is also far different than those built 60 years ago.
