According to a survey of 7,100 American teens last year conducted by investment bank Piper Sandler, 87% of teens currently have an iPhone, and 87% plan on sticking with the brand for their next phone.

‘You’re Telling Me in 2023, You Still Have a ’Droid?’ Why Teens Hate Android Phones – WSJ

As one commenter notes, wait until the kids have to pay for these phones themselves, instead of spending from the Bank of Mom and Dad. iPhones range in price from $600 up to $1,500, depending on older or newer version, and how much memory is onboard.

This is bizarre:

“You’re telling me in 2023, you still have a ’Droid?” says 20-year-old online creator Abdoul Chamberlain during a video posted in April. “You gotta be at least 50 years old.” The video goes on to say that only parents have Androids,

At my age, I am accustomed to people assuming I know nothing about technology. Sigh. I have a BS in computer science, an MS in software engineering (2012) with a thesis on Android power management, and an MBA, plus additional graduate courses in computer security and medical informatics. I’ve worked in Silicon Valley and for Microsoft, and for wireless technology companies, including one patent in the wireless communication area and one in aviation safety. Yeah, I don’t know anything – as I sit here reading Modern Computer Architecture text.

I have an old Mac Pro, and a MacBook Pro, and previously had various older Mac desktop and notebook computers. While I like my MacBook Pro, I am not a fan of Apple’s rapid product obsolescence and discontinuance of support. This is not an environmentally friendly approach to tech.
