I have non-fast T-Mobile service at my house – my neighborhood is in a dead zone for their 5G Ultra service. I usually see just 5-20 Mbps downloads on Speedtest.net. (See update below – 200 Mbps now!)

A few weeks, while in a rural small town near mine, I ran Speedtest.net – and saw a staggering (for me) 550 Mbps download speed! Whoa! I had never seen that before. I ran the test a 2nd time and saw similar performance.

Since then, T-Mobile has made cell site upgrades in my town to provide 5G Ultra service, which appears to be millimeter wave (25, 28 or 39 Ghz) service. Unfortunately, we are in a dead zone.

None the less, this is remarkable performance for those who can get it. It looks like T-Mobile is working on higher speeds on their low and mid-bands too: T-Mobile unveils four-carrier aggregation on 5G SA network

This technology may enable much faster services on their 600 Mhz, 1.9 Ghz and 2.5 Ghz spectrum by aggregating multiple carriers.

UPDATE: Well – just after I posted this, I measured 100 Mbps from inside my house and 200 Mbps in my back yard. Wow. Things have changed for the better! Checking the coverage map, my neighborhood (several blocks) is in a bit of an RF hole on their map. Outside our neighborhood, the map shows Ultra 5G services.
