I saw photos of the EV pickup truck, and the extra cab to carry more passengers. But I was perplexed by the short truck bed. Who wants a truck bed that isn’t even 5 feet long?

I have since learned that the extra cab can open up to the truck bed, expanding the cargo space to about 8 feet or 11 feet with the gate down.

That’s a neat idea. We once owned a Chevy K2500 pickup truck with extended cab and an 8 foot long truck bed. I do not think extended cab trucks with an 8 foot bed are even made anymore.

Back then, we had kids and the extra cab area was configured for seats. I rode back there and it wasn’t bad. However, this configuration made for a very long pickup truck – and parking was a challenge where parking lots are laid out for mostly small cars.

The new expandable truck bed overcomes the length problem.

It is not clear if the extendable truck bed can accommodate a camper. It probably can with the tail gate down. However, the EV range with an 1,800 pound camper in the back is probably cut substantially.
