The above individual notes he did, in fact, pay off his own education loans and did not give permission to Newsweek to quote his above tweet (where I learned of it).

Many pointed out that not paying off one’s loans to say “F* you to this country” would end up ruining one’s credit history for many years to come. Not a very good idea.

Second, the Biden’s loan forgiveness program would have only touched up to $10,000 for most borrowers (who voluntarily took on the loans). Education loans have already had a nearly 3 year “pause” during which no payments were required – a nice gift unto its own.

$10,000, at 5%, for ten years is about $100 per month payment. If one can’t pay off the $10k amount that would have been forgiven, the borrower made poor choices in the past by borrowing to invest in something with, apparently, no return on investment.

There are reason you are not finding a lot of sympathy by threatening everyone else for not paying off the loans you voluntarily took on. For details see: How to show you know nothing of history without saying you know nothing of history – Social Panic
