The closings follow an enrollment decline of 14 percent in the decade through 2022, the most recent period for which the figures are available from the Education Department. A decline of as much as 15 percent is projected to begin next year.

College closures leave students with questions, fewer options – The Washington Post (archive.is)

2008 was the peak year for the number of high school graduates in the United States; its been downhill ever since then. This past week, the US Census reported that the U.S. fertility rate has fallen to 1.62, the lowest level ever recorded.

About 10% of colleges and universities are in “financial risk” and in danger of eventually closing.

The fertility drop is often blamed on the current economy – but this drop has been on going for decades. Has little or nothing to do with the current economy.
