“The registration numbers of electric vehicles continue to be high, but what concerns us is the current dip in demand – not only at Volkswagen but across all manufacturers,” said Lies.

Lies has called for discussions on the implementation of new incentives for electric vehicle purchases, including a reduction in value-added tax.

I do not think they need more incentives – the problem might be that they do not have the correct feature set yet. The VW ID.4 is a nice car, with a good towing capacity – but a serious designer error: the charge port as at the back of the vehicle. If you are towing a small trailer, you’ll likely have to unhitch so you can back the ID.4 into a charging station.

Price and range continue to be issues for most buyers as well. The new crop of hybrids may be more appealing – the Toyota Prius Prime 2023 model now has a 44 mile EV range – perfect for city driving, plus their usual fuel efficient gas engine too. And it’s priced considerably less than many EVs.
