The city of Sunderland has canceled the Sunderland Airshow, permanently, saying this is done due to climate change. The annual event had previously attracted (per different reports) hundreds of thousands or up to about one million attendees.
Wonder how long until we see a wide variety of events canceled in other countries, including the U.S., over alleged climate impacts. Doubt the cancelation will have any detectable impact on global climate.
Update – not long
Emissions from human activities must fall at least 43% from 2019 levels by 2030 to keep the 1.5C goal within reach, according to analysis by scientists at the UN-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. New commitments only cut emissions by 7%, meaning they would have to be six times more ambitious to align with the goals in the Paris Agreement, according to WRI’s analysis.
“A holistic approach to reducing emissions from transport includes avoiding unnecessary vehicle travel, shifting to efficient travel modes, and improving vehicle and fuel efficiency,”
I expect much airline flying to be banned within years as the climate authorities shut everything down. Covid-19 lock downs were, as the UK Parliament Speaker said, a trial run for climate.
