It’s all downhill from here – with tremendous ramifications for schools over the next ten years. Oregon schools already have a median class size of 23, which makes costs per student high. As enrollment falls further, that means either merging or closing schools and laying off staff – or spending ever more amounts of money to keep low enrollment facilities open.
