Some climate change enthusiasts argue that we, basically, should not travel at all. We are to restructure cities so that we can walk or ride a bike. Longer travel would be primarily by solar or wind powered electric trains. Private vehicles would become very expensive to own and operate (the average price of an EV is already US $60,000 and some say those prices will rise further over the next few years). Several states and countries have banned the sale of gasoline vehicles after 2030 – just 8 years away. To put that in context, California, which has banned gas vehicle sales after 2030 – is taking over 25 years to build only half of a high speed rail line costing far more than originally estimated. Yet in 8 years, they can change the entire vehicle infrastructure?
Merely pointing this out brands me as a climate change denier. Which is interesting as my house is powered by solar PV, we upgraded our insulation to R-60, we heat using locally source wood waste products, drive a 42 mpg vehicle, and have installed two 220v outlets for future EV charging. Our solar PV produces sufficient power to also charge an EV for all local driving. I also dramatically reduced meat consumption by perhaps 90% (although after my recent bout with hepatitis I am rethinking the concept that eating fresh fruits and vegetables is healthy).
