A mother whose son’s childhood has been “destroyed” after he contracted chickenpox, leading to “lifelong disabilities”, is urging parents to think twice before deciding not to vaccinate their children.

‘My son’s childhood is gone – parents who don’t vaccinate their children need to hear this’ (msn.com)

The parents chose not to have him vaccinated against chicken pox, even though a vaccine has now been available for a long time. Instead, they were looking to him getting chicken pox and develop “natural” immunity. They did not realize that diseases that are usually harmless can sometimes have serious health consequences.

As a child in the 1960s, before the advent of common childhood disease vaccines, I had chicken pox, measles and mumps, plus a brain injury around age 5 (after which I was in speech therapy for 18+ months) and a major brain injury and 5″ long skull fracture before age 12. As I child I was vaccinated for smallpox and polio, only. Not until I was an older adult did I catch up on vaccines: shingles, hepatitis, MMR, DTaP, etc, and of course, influenza and Covid-19. All told, I had 13 vaccination shots between December 2019 and December 2022. I am now due for a tetanus booster shot.
