Partly it was pushed, promoted and sold on falsehoods (like misleading EPA range figures when the cold wintertime useful range is 50-60% of that claimed by EV promoters) and also by Trump’s failed industrial policy: EV realism is here. How GM, Hyundai, Ford react in 2026 will be telling
Auto makers, suppliers, and the government wasted tens of billions of dollars, now written off as losses. This happens when politicians think a centrally planned economy is a solution. That money could have been put to designing and building vehicles that people need and want, rather than being imposed top down by idiot politicians.
EV promoters lied. EV promoting politicians lied. EV makers lied.
It’s lies all the way down.
EVs have a place but they were not yet ready for prime-time – pricey, real world very limited useful range (especially in very cold areas of the country in winter) – and insufficient charging infrastructure.
Sadly, as I have learned in the past month or two – nearly everything we thought we knew was wrong, usually due to lies and propaganda from promoters. Coming to grips with how much of the world is misleading at best, fraudulent at worst is very depressing.
