TriMet ridership remains down by a third from 2019, and the recovery is slowing – oregonlive.com
Says each rider costs $7.88 subsidy – and since the base fair is $2.80 (for 2 1/2 hours or $5.60 for the day) – that means each ride starts at about $10.68 per person. That probably means it costs a lot more than a 2 to 4 person car pool ride (which, round trip, would be up to nearly $21.)
The state wants to add a statewide 0.5% transportation payroll income tax to continue subsidizing a unsustainable and failed public transit system. This would benefit a handful of metro areas on the west side of the state while all workers would fund it.
Trimet is broke and says it will have to cut half it’s bus routes by 2027, or 5/7ths of its routes by 2031.
