Amazon sued by DC AG over slow deliveries in low-income areas

The DC Attorney General accuses Amazon of discontinuing services over safety concerns. That is not an issue where we live, though.

Amazon abandoned their original 2-day delivery option earlier in 2024 – to the entire center of our state.

All orders began taking 5-7 days to deliver – and sometimes 10-15 days. The original 1- and 2-day delivery options vanished from order pages. Amazon never made an announcement to customers – even though we had been paying for Amazon Prime service for almost 3 decades.

The lack of courtesy to tell customers they were ending fast delivery options for Prime is inexcusable. After six months of bad delivery services, we canceled our Prime membership and switched to Walmart+, which has had consistently excellent service.

This is a lesson in business operations – Amazon built an entire brand on fast delivery, then quietly ended it without telling customers – in order to eek out Prime annual fees a little bit longer. As Warren Buffet has remarked, it can take decades to build a brand and just minutes to destroy it. Congratulations Amazon – you did it!
