When I attended elementary school in California, we had 30 to 32 students per classroom. “Portable classrooms” were brought in to add to wings to our school.
By the time I got to high school, I took classes housed in portable classrooms that were literally trailers of the type used for mobile homes or construction offices. That’s because of the then fertility rate.
Oregon at 1.39, is now behind Vermont at 1.41. Oregon has the nation’s lowest fertility rate per the above link.
