“Roughly 75 percent of US adults are at high risk of severe COVID because of medical conditions, disabilities, racial discrimination, social disparities and environmental factors. COVID-19 has already killed millions and countless individuals are suffering from Long Covid around the world.”
More than 75% of the U.S. population has now had Covid at least once, per the CDC. A small % suffer serious health problems that continue for a year or more. But the entire US population is not suffering from Long Covid. Long Covid is defined as a set of symptoms lasting, typically longer than 4 or 8 weeks. Some of the most common symptoms are fatigue and anxiety.
Some papers have suggested the incidence of long Covid is similar to the incidence of other “long” post viral periods. When I had hepatitis, I was weak and tired for months, for example. When I had (simultaneously) Strep A, influenza and pneumonia (when young), a fever measured in an ER at 104 deg F, I missed 3 weeks of school and was tired for months afterward.
How does the risk of Covid compare to other risks? At this point, the chances of dying in a car crash are higher (I did the stats once for our state when Covid was more prevalent). Or of cancer. Or of other accidents or diseases.
