I no longer answer phone calls unless (a) I know the caller, and/or (b) I am expecting the call.
I am now getting scammer phone calls about twice per month – they always have a thick Indian accent, they try to create a level of fear and urgency. One of their favorites is “We are calling about the delivery of legal documents to your residence in one hour and need to verify some information”. “Legal documents” creates the fear factor, and “in one hour” – time urgency.
People’s brains freeze up with an onslaught of fear and urgency – all for a scam.
I am also getting, at least once per week, “survey” calls. I no longer answer these either. Some of the surveys are bogus political advertising – “If you knew that Joe Smith tortured baby kittens, would you still vote for Smith?” Hah hah. Literally, I took a survey call like that once. That was no survey – that was a fake political ad!
