This past week, MIT App Inventor shared photos from a show-and-tell exhibit that was apparently done in Washington, DC. They posted perhaps a dozen photos. All showed young women of many races, and young men of color. Apparently there are no longer any young white males participating in software development.
Prior to the Covid hysteria, I had been a First Robotics engineering mentor at 5 high schools. I had the honor of working with a diverse group of students of all races, ethnicities and immigrants. Most subsequently went on to study fields of engineering or computer science in university programs. It is unfortunate that, per MIT App Inventor’s post we have apparently lost young white males from the tech industry. Seems odd. What could we do to get young white males interested in software development?
