After an outcry the Colorado bill was shelved, but the mission continues. Mark Howell, councillor on Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council, suggested at a town hall meeting on reaching Net Zero by 2050 that dogs of medium to large size should be banned. Howell claimed that Labradors have carbon emissions similar to that of a SUV car. Pets, he stated, consume a fifth of the global resource of meat and fish. Therefore, owners should ‘scale down’ . Pets should be shared between friends and family to reduce their number.
