There has been record or rare cold spells in China, North American and northern Europe. For now, these are local weather events, just as hot spells are local weather events. Hot spells are blamed on global warming, while cold spells are “weather” or caused by global warming.
The problem with these responses is they are inconsistent, often contradictory, and incoherent, and applied at random – which is similar to what occurred with Covid-19 messaging. People realize these explanations are inconsistent and incoherent and give up listening. Climate communications remains a disaster.
