- Because ClimateCrisis: Should We Stop Buying Christmas Gifts?
- I’m not buying my little girl, one, any Christmas presents this year – and instead I’m using the money for a family holiday to India | Daily Mail Online: “She continued: ‘We’re increasingly aware of the global impact of our purchases. Everything we buy the kids will go into landfill. Much of it already has.” – These hypocrites are flying to India for Christmas, instead of gifts. Because Climate.
- ‘I refuse to buy Christmas gifts for my husband and kids, it’s a waste of time’ – Mirror Online. The author is a “fashion writer”, a field that encourages everyone to get new clothes and shoes all the time. But she won’t be getting gifts for her children.
- Feeling pressured to buy Christmas presents? Read this (and think twice before buying candles) (theconversation.com) “in 2007 researchers from the Stockholm Environment Institute examined consumption over the festive season, and found 80kg of carbon dioxide per person could be saved if unwanted gifts were not purchased.”.
- Christmas gift shaming is underway!
I agree with the need to stop excess consumerism that buys stuff and more stuff. It is pointless but everyone buys into the meme and retailers are happy to sell you stuff you don’t need. But do we really want to ban Christmas gift giving? Will this be a supported measure for ClimateCrisis?
