Am seeing many ads and faux news stories promoting early “Black Friday” deals – upgrade your stuff now!

Most energy consumption is in mining, harvesting and/or manufacturing “stuff” – most of which we don’t need but advertising persuades you to get it to make your life better, to keep up with your friends, and to make yourself seem more worldly and sexier!

Do you really need to update your Samsung S22 to the newer S23? Do you really need a new iPhone? Do you really need a new notebook that is a tiny bit faster than your older one? Do you really need a new kitchen appliance that will be used for a few weeks then mostly hidden away in a cabinet after that? Do you really need that new 25 Megapixel camera – a little higher resolution than your existing camera?

Or do you really need a medium format camera (you know you need one, right?)

Do you really need a $316,000 watch? Hublot and Contemporary Artist Takashi Murakami Team up on a $316,000 Translucent Watch | Barron’s (barrons.com)

Many do not realize how much stuff they have collected until they decide to move – and discovered closets, cabinets and garages full of stored stuff they are no longer using. Here’s a tip: if you do buy something new, match it up with something to get rid of – to avoid hoarding lots of junk.

Well, obviously, I’ll never make money running ads on this web site!
