Beginning during the pandemic, deliveries began to take longer and longer. Two day delivery has become a myth. One week delivery isn’t met for perhaps half the items ordered.

I have several items ordered through Amazon on June 20th, 2023.

As of July 7:

  • One item is estimated to arrive on July 14th (it finally shipped!)
  • One item was “Awaiting package acceptance” at the USPS on June 20th – but no further updates since then. I assume the package is lost. (Update: It was lost and the shipper has sent another that may arrive on July 15th.)
  • I have some items ordered July 2 that have not yet shipped or have no tracking information (status unknown) – although one item ordered on July 2nd is scheduled to arrive on July 7 (today).

Why have Amazon Prime?

For a long time we thought these slowdowns were due to “pandemic supply chain” issues, but the problem has continued or gotten worse.

Last winter, there were delays due to our local Post Office being understaffed. Packages would sit for 1-3 weeks at the local post office before they were able to deliver them.

But in July 2023? Today we assume any online order will not arrive for weeks.

I’m so old, I remember just a few years ago when most things worked pretty well. The good ‘ol days!
