The title is the name of a 1971 PBS documentary speculating about a future large earthquake in San Francisco. Long before global warming, the media needed a scary headline based on future projections of the death of San Francisco. They predicted that within 5 years, Experts would be able to predict future earthquakes.
Like all Expert predictions, they were wrong, as usual.
But hey, they did get the death part right – just not due to an earthquake but to public health measures. San Francisco’s downtown has died:
