50,000 satellites are night sky pollution. And once up there, do we need more?
One possibility is that we just have not yet thought of more potential applications. We do seem to be saturating space borne Internet connectivity but perhaps there are yet new inventions to come that will use ever more connectivity?
Perhaps rural broadband really is the answer, and North Americans certainly pay much more for broadband than we do.
But there are only so many high value customers strung out across the sparsely populated regions of developed countries. For the poorer nations, where connectivity is greatly needed, they may be reached quicker by 4G and 5G operators.
Another market is the 4G and 5G operators themselves, as LEO satellites provide the backhaul connectivity they need, both as primary pipe, and as a backup pipe too.
