December 27th, 2022:

There is growing concern among infectious disease and public health experts that the US could face even more respiratory infections in January.

Reality mid-January 2023:

Flu activity peaked without post-holiday spike in cases, but respiratory virus season is still in full swing | CNN

RSV peaked in mid-November.

The expert projections were wrong, again. Expert projections are always wrong.

Remember the scary pronouncements in the fall about the super scary influenza season that started early?

Although this season did hit earlier than usual, outcomes are within an expected range – at least so far.

We are deep into “Never Cry Wolf” territory. I now ignore all scary expert projections on everything – Covid, climate, the economy – wolves attacking the sheep herd. Because the expert predictions are almost always wrong and no one goes back and calls them out on their failed predictions.

Why do we continue to fall for this nonsense?
