We already compost all food waste from prep and any unusable leftovers (not much of that):

This, however, is not something that all apartment condo and high-rise dwellers can do, however, as they lack access to outdoor spaces for compost bins. Some cities have residents put compostable items in a separate bin, for waste pick up but this is not available everywhere and the environmental benefits of picked up waste (you still need to drive big trucks around to gather the items, and then process them off site) may not be as large as proponents think they are.
