Republicans were expected to have strong results in the mid-term national elections – particularly during a time of high inflation, high interest rates, and a President that at times seems disconnected. But Republicans did not do well.

The reason might be that their messaging is stuck in the past.

Consider demographics once again:

The world of white middle class suburbia with large families and everyone going to church on Sunday no longer exists. But this is the demographic they continue to focus on – but that is a demographic in decline. The Republicans are looking backwards and not forwards.

If instead they were to focus on opportunity, education, freedom – they would have a message that would appeal to more people. But their message is comingled with values are not as widely shared as they believe – notably on topics like abortion and immigration and Trump, who on social media, has appeared to most as a buffoon. The result of failing to understand the population demographics, and focusing on the past and not the future, is their impact will continue its downward trend.

Meanwhile, Democrats favor rule by technocratic elite – a soft form of Communism’s rule by central committees. The pandemic made this obvious – where heavy-handed rules, regulations and guidance were enforced upon the masses against their will – and without considering the costs and harms. Over 50 rules were shot down by the Courts as unconstitutional, illustrating how out of touch their anti-democracy approach to governing has become.

Voters were stuck with only 2 choices:

  • Choose a party focused mostly on the past (R)
  • Choose a party focused on rule by technocratic elite (D)

Neither was a good choice.

I do not belong to any political party. I was briefly registered as a Democrat when I was young, and I supported (but was not a member of) a local Libertarian Party effort for a couple of years, over 20 years ago. I am amazed at how many elected politicians of both parties are surprisingly dumb – as shown when they open their mouth or post on their social media. I wish we had more parties, not less, so we had more choice options.
