- Few people want to wear a VR helmet
- Fewer people want to wear a VR helmet all day
- VR helmets might someday be replaced with lighter and better solutions, but still have difficult interaction with real-world UI devices (like keyboards, controllers)
- VR helmets are expensive
- Many VR helmets work awkwardly or poorly for people who need to wear vision correcting eyeglasses; many people are not eligible for contact lenses as an alternative, either.
- Most users of Meta’s VR worlds give up after as little as a month
There are effective uses for VR – notably CAD design system and gaming. But is there a mass market of people wanting to spend a lot of money on VR helmets and then wear them for hours or even all day?
There will be many improvements in the technology – but it remains unclear whether there is a huge market for all this.
