Public health has often said, in so many words, if we’d been more like China we would have stopped Covid, oblivious and unaware of their own past statements, and disconnected from the real world. Instead, they demonstrated public health has no effective and sustainable non-pharmaceutical tools to stop a highly contagious respiratory virus. Their own research concluded that but they ignored it.

Monkeypox was not Covid. Neither was Ebola. Nor MERS-Cov. Nor SARS-Cov-1. We have had these coming at us far more frequently than her strawman argument of once in 100 years.

June 2, 2020

Dr. Nuzzo is the reason I began to question public health, ultimately leading to my no longer believing anything from public health experts (should that term be in quotes?)

On June 2, 2020, she said Protesting is more important than fighting a virus. On that day, my view of public health was shattered. In January 2020, pre-pandemic, I had read the late Dr. Hans Rosling’s book, Factfulness and had a super positive view of public health.

She cannot wordsmith her way out of that statement – it was echoing the same message coming from other public health experts. The entire field piled on to this idea that protesting – and apparently killing Grandma, as they said the prior week – was now more important than fighting a virus.

Dr. Nuzzo’s June 2 statement would be followed a day later with a petition signed by 1,187 public health “experts” saying the same thing. (At some point, an adult entered the room and took the petition offline because of how bad this appeared.)

By the end of the week, I discontinued following most public health experts I had worshipped the prior 5 months. I concluded 90% of public health was political ideology, 10% science. They did this to themselves. But they lack self-awareness of the damage they inflicted to themselves, to public health and to Science itself.

After being told for months to “Stay Home. Save Lives. Don’t Kill Grandma”, we got this: “In this moment the public health risks of not protesting to demand an end to systemic racism greatly exceed the harms of the virus” – and in that moment, public health was all political ideology and zero health.

This occurred after I was denied access to health care for what would be diagnosed as a broken foot. This denial occurred because my state shut down access for non-life threatening health care based on a discredited model from the UW’s Institute of Health Metrics and Evalution (IHME). OHA and IHME later acknowledged the model was off in space; I observed their input parameters were wrong and spent weeks trying to contact IHME and alert them to their erroneous values.

You might say public health’s contact with the public started off on the wrong foot … to this day I still have some pain in the foot due to the lack of treatment – 13 weeks from injury to diagnosis, by which time there wasn’t much to do about it. (Update Feb 2024: I now have chronic pain and other problems that developed as a consequence of being denied health care. These problems greatly impact my life. I legitimately hate public health for the harms they intentionally caused and view the as monsters.)

Stay Home. Save Lives. I have hundreds if not thousands of these saved items from 2020 through 2022. It’s been non-stop inconsistencies, contradictions, and incoherent statements from the very beginning.

Sadly, public health lacks self-awareness that they, and they alone, are the problem.
