Serious question – why invest so much in a 4-year degree that probably starts at far less and which has limited upside as well when you can make $100k as a starting truck driver?

In-house truck drivers will now be able to earn between $95,000 and $110,000 in their first year at the company, a Walmart spokeswoman said Thursday. At the high end, that’s 26% higher than the previous average for new drivers. Veterans of the Walmart Private Fleet can earn even more, the company said in a statement.

Denmark, which pays a stipend for students to attend college, appears to do that because in their society, there is not, on much difference in pay, on average, between a high school grad and a college grad. Consequently, students need an economic incentive – free tuition plus stipend – to attend college and get sufficient people trained with college skillsets. At least, it looks that way.
