Hiring at Big Tech companies is down by -25 to 50% since 2019 and at startups, down by 30% since 2019.
But outside of “BigTech” such as in finance, health care, manufacturing, logistics, retail, government – hiring of technical graduates remains steady.
Those in “AI exposed” positions saw a 13% decline in hiring.
But this might change: Hiring at BigTech firms is expected to grow slightly (2% to 5%) in to 2026, and continue into 2027. One survey says tech job ads have increased 21% since one year ago.
At Big Tech, the in demand fields are AI, computer security, and cloud services.
Some specialized fields are also seeing strong growth options: robotics, industrial automation, embedded systems, firmware, and aerospace see strong job growth and opportunities
