Vegan and vegetarian eating are trendy. They’ve re-branded to “plant-based” to avoid the stigma associated with “vegetarianism”, but it is still the same.
Two studies put people on the plant-based “good for the planet diet”. The first found that after 12 weeks, the average participant had their vitamin B-12 levels fall by more than a third. The people in the study were counseled by professional dietitians, and yet, even then, they suffered nutrient drops. The second study found drops in just six weeks.
In 2023, Gallup found that 4% of Americans identified as vegetarian and 1% as vegan – a drop from 6% and 2% 18 years earlier. Contrary to the media portrayals, vegan and vegetarian eating are a small niche.
