I had an outpatient procedure near my left shoulder a couple of months ago. Just saw the bills come through.
Hospital billed amount: $86,500
Insurance settled: $8,600
My deductible co-pay out of pocket: 20% of the settled price.
There were some additional charges for pre-op, post-op, and anesthesia – I didn’t add those up yet.
When we were on an ACA policy less than 2 years ago, our deductible was $9,200 per person so I would have paid for the whole procedure, probably, depending on their negotiated price.
