Media coverage about diet runs about 20-40% of stories are about “plant-based” eating. That term was invented as a marketing term to avoid that most people didn’t like “vegetarianism”.
This media bias leads to views that vegetarian or vegan eating are widespread. They are not.
A 2023 Gallup poll found 4% of Americans say they are vegetarian and 1% say they are vegan, down from 6% and 2% 18 years earlier.
A newer poll on public support of various concepts find 4% oppose eating meat.
