From that, we conclude that homes have become super expensive in terms of income. However, the homes of 1960 and 1970 were far smaller – about 1,300 and 1,500 sq ft. Today’s average new home is about 2,500 square feet. When the home prices are normalized for size, we end up with this ratio:
