Social media has a lot of doomerism and false claims, including that today’s young people are doing worse than ever, if not the worst in history. Those claims, though, are not supported by data.
Related: One post noted that with the announcement of the Apple Neo M-series Mac “starting” at $599, it now only costs $1800 for a college student to have all the digital devices they “need” for college – notebook PC, iPhone, iPad and other items. Then add in monthly subscriptions for cell service, streaming services and possibly software subscriptions too.
While probably necessary, this lifestyle creep costs a lot more than 3 to 5 decades ago.
