Why not? When faced with the daily doomerism of a media devoid of historical context, you end up brain washing a lot of young people into likely making poor decisions – it’s not Gen Z’s fault, it’s that doomerism is rampant:

And younger generations are so disappointed and frustrated by the state of the housing market they are spending more of their earnings than they are saving, they’re working less, and they’re making risky investments, according to a recently published paper by Northwestern University and University of Chicago researchers.

Gen Z is defiantly ‘giving up’ on ever owning a home and is spending more than saving, working less, and making risky investments, study shows

But expectations: ““No matter how hard I work, I will never be able to afford a home I really love.””

No one wants a starter home. They want the average 2400 sq ft, 3+ bedrooms, 2-3 bathrooms, 2 car garage home.

Blames “student loan debt” – although only 25% of Gen Z has student loan debt at this time, and those that do, have about $25k in education loan debts.

Reminder – as of 2025, Gen Z spanned age 13-28, with an average age of 21. The average age of a first-time home buyer has been around 28-30 for decades. Gen Z, for the most part, is not up to being a first-time home buyer age yet.
