Absolutely everything is a scam: Reddit post exposes tap-to-pay scam in Seattle | kgw.com
Reminds me of the door-to-door magazine sales – where a young person would be earning money for college by selling magazine subscriptions. The kids were shipped in (bus or air) and basically became indentured servants who had to meet sales goals before being allowed to leave. In this case, the kids and the people they sold to were all being scammed.
I was going to give a large donation, last month, to a local non-profit based on their pleas for donations. Then I read their IRS Form 990 and discovered the majority of their money came from government grants and fees for services. They are basically a government contractor. Less than 10% of their funds came from individual donations – they put out these pleas for local donations for 2 reasons: (1) these funds are “unrestricted” so they can spend on anything, and (2) they use it to show the IRS that they have local community support. In fact, their main business is they are a government contractor – anytime you see “non-government organization” think outsourced government operatations.
I sent my donation to a different organization.
