From the beginning, the ACA would fail as it contained numerous defects and could never be sustainable: Health insurance is less affordable as Obamacare offerings shrink – The Washington Post
ACA policies are not like corporate group policies. The main difference between self-funded bronze, silver or gold plans is you pre-pay the deductible, which makes sense only in limited situations. For the typical Bronze policy, deductibles are $8,0000-$10,000 or more per person, or up to $20,000 for a family. That’s catastrophic insurance coverage – which is a far cry from what was promised. In fact, a 2008 paper co-authored by now Sen. Elizabeth Warren argued that medical bankruptcy was the cause of personal bankruptcies – yet her data showed the difference between medical and non-medical bankruptcy was about $4k of debt – far less than today’s out of pocket deductibles and co-pays. Her paper was used as a major argument for the flawed ACA.
