I have not followed DEI issues or controversies. This – The Lost Generation | Compact – is the first I have read about this topic and paints a wild portrait of modern hiring – where nearly all hiring decisions are based on racial classification, ethnicity, sex, LGBTQ, and disability status.

Separately, the US government, which collects data on academic and company hiring – does not collect data on race/ethnicity of foreign-born workers on temporary visas (H-1B, L-1, OPT and others). The result is a company that hires a white European male does not have that show up in their “diversity” data – which in some organizations, gives an incentive to hire a foreign-born white male over a U.S. resident white male. Basically, companies can hire as many foreign-born white males as they want – without harming their diverse workforce data or claims. If they had hired an American white male, that would lead to their workforce looking less diverse.
