Hard to tell on this chart but it looks like this number has fallen to about 1990 levels when the population was about 250 million. Today, the US population is about 347 million or 40% larger.
But families with children are now much less than then.
This with about 30% more people, we have far fewer families with children. This is scary trend when you realize how much of our society and government was built on the idea of an ever expanding population.
