The ACA design was fundamentally flawed and defective from the beginning – it has now collapsed into totally unaffordable access to health care.
A total failure of the Democrats, especially, but also the Republicans who’ve had 15 years to craft an alternative but never did.
The original ACA was passed by a 60 vote Democrat majority Senate, a Democrat majority House, and signed by a Democrat president, based on a designed the serial failed health system designer, Dr. Jonathan Gruber of MIT (post coming up on his prior failed health care designs). In 2020, the “mandate” was ended but it had actually ended earlier. By law, in the ACA itself, once Bronze premiums exceeded about 8% of a household’s annual income, the household was exempt – almost everyone was exempt as the premiums had already skyrocketed. In fact, after the mandate was ended, the rate of growth in premium price hikes DECLINED.
Congress has had 15 years to fix the major defects in the ACA. For comparison, the US fought and won World War 2 in about 4 years.
Congress is inhabited by useless, narcissistic imbeciles and Dr. Jonathan Gruber deserves every bit of scorn you can muster. He was the one who said at a conference that they had to use obfuscated language to get the Act past the stupid American voter. Gruber is an asshole.
For older adults who may be retired but not yet eligible for Medicare, they may wish to consider moving to a Central or South American country, at least until they reach age 65, where health care costs are far lower. Yes, the situation is that bad and that dire for them.
