Important comments from Dr Jeremy London, a cardiac surgeon. He had a heart attack with a 99% blocked artery and didn’t recognize it at first.
- Shortness of breath
- Weakness
- Pressure in jaw or neck
- Fatigue

My primary symptom was sudden onset intense fatigue while out on a level hike (a walk, really) and burping. However, I have a moderate hiatal hernia so the burping was in the normal range for me. I had no chest pain, I did have some slight left shoulder pain; however, just before this I had done some left shoulder stretches for my left shoulder impingement syndrome and did not feel anything out of the ordinary.
I am critical of the media/cardiology industry for over simplifying heart symptoms. If I had been aware of the full range of symptoms – such as fatigue – I might have caught this before I had a heart attack as I had had episodes of fatigue about once per week for a few months, which I attributed to a side effect of a medication I was taking (up to 1/3 of users of this med experience fatigue). In retrospect, these were early signs of a partially blocked artery.
