Windows 10 was introduced in July of 2015, and received on-going support until October 2025 (or even into 2026, depending on if the user selected that option or paid a fee for future security updates).

Apple, by comparison, supports each OS release for 3-5 years.

So – upset about Windows 10 support ending after ten years users are said to be switching to an Apple Mac whose OS support will be just 3-5 years: Microsoft’s decision to axe Windows 10 is driving Apple PC sales growth — users buy Macs instead of AI PCs despite Microsoft’s push for Copilot+ PCs

Another good alternative would be to install Ubuntu Linux. It has a dual boot capability so you can still keep Windows 10 and run Ubuntu also. I have a Windows 10 system that I am keeping on Windows 10 – it is the only PC I have that supports my 20+ something year old image/negative scanner’s software. The scanner is excellent but they never released support for Windows 11. For now, I’m keeping the old Windows 10 PC, whose hardware pre-dates TPM module support.

I may install a dual-boot Ubuntu to give additional options for the old hardware. I currently run Ubuntu on an old Mac Mini that lost support many years ago.
